If you’re in the market for a smartphone, you’re probably struggling with a decision that many others have faced at one point or another: Buy a smartphone now or wait. While we can’t make the decision for you, we can make it a little easier and here, we take a look at the five smartphones that we think are the 2014 smartphones that are worth waiting for.
Picking out your next smartphone is getting increasingly difficult as mobile technology slows down. Those that don’t keep up with the fast pace world of smartphones probably have a very blurred view of the market. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 are indistinguishable to many people. And that’s just one of the problems.
In the world of smartphones, there is always something new, something better right around the corner. The rumor mill is spinning at all times and that makes it difficult for many shoppers to commit to a device that’s on the market already. We’ve heard from numerous people who are struggling with a decision between the iPhone 5s and the 2014 iPhone. And there are those that are having a tough time trying to decide between buying the Galaxy Note 3 or waiting for the next model to come out.
Of course, those aren’t the only rumored devices. There are tons of rumored 2014 smartphones out there, teasing consumers who are looking to upgrade to a new device. And again, this comes in addition to the devices that are already on shelves, devices like the HTC One M8, Galaxy S5, and iPhone 5s.
Trying to decide between waiting, or buying, is extremely difficult but we’re here to help.
The iPhone 6 is rumored to be coming to replace the iPhone 5s. And like all numbered iPhone models, the iPhone 6 is expected to bring some sweeping changes to Apple’s iconic smartphone.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 6 will finally deliver the big screen that many iPhone owners have been waiting for. iPhone 6 rumors universally suggest a jump in size up to around 4.7-inches with a larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 also rumored to be in the mix for 2014.
We’ve also heard about potential upgrades to the device’s camera, to its processor, to its software and maybe more importantly, to its design. The iPhone 6 design is expected to be slim and feature a sapphire display that will help prevent cracks and scratches.
It’s a rumored smartphone, sure, but iPhone 6 rumors have begun to firm up and they point to a major upgrade from the iPhone 5s. Those who already own the iPhone or are considering making the switch should certainly think about waiting. If only to get a price drop on the iPhone 5s.
The iPhone 6 is expected to arrive in the fall, perhaps in September.
Every year, Google releases a cheap, unlocked Nexus smartphone will all of the fixings. And every year, the Nexus smartphone is considered to be among the best smartphones on the planet. Last year’s Nexus 5 is no different and it currently sits among our favorite smartphones on the market.
Rumors point to a Nexus 6 release later on this year, a release that could ultimately wind up being the company’s last Nexus smartphone release. Rumors suggest that the device will take after the upcoming LG G3, a sign that it will be outfitted with high-end features expected from a Nexus smartphone.
The Nexus 6 likely won’t arrive until much later in the year but given the knock on the Nexus 5 (inconsistent camera and battery life), it might worth it to take a pass on this year’s device and opt for what’s coming next. Google almost never disappoints.
MOTO X +1
Last year’s Moto X was one of the biggest surprises of the year. It was Motorola’s best release in years and we rated it amongst the best smartphones on the market. In fact, we still consider it among the best smartphones on shelves, nearly a year after its release.
Motorola confirmed that it will be bringing a new Moto X+1 to market later this year and we can’t help to feel excited about it. The Moto X featured a customizable design, some of the best Android software on the market, and a great camera and there is no reason to think that the sequel will be a step backward.
If Motorola keeps the device affordable, there is a real good chance that the Moto X+1 could be one of the best smartphones ever made. Best of all, it’s coming out sometime this summer which means that there isn’t much of a wait.
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is one of the most powerful smartphones on the market and one of the top smartphones that money can buy. So, it should come as no surprise that we think its sequel, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, is a phone that is worth waiting for.
There are some other reasons why we included it on this list though. Yes, it will almost certainly be a powerful smartphone with a high-end processor, S Pen stylus and great multitasking software, but there is also a very good chance that it could come with a brand new form factor that could change the landscape.
Samsung continues to hint at a flexible display for its Galaxy Note 4. It’s not confirmed but a three-sided display would be a first for Samsung. If that’s not worth waiting for, then consider the fact that the Galaxy Note 4 could also come with a QHD display and a bunch of other features that should trump the Galaxy Note 3’s feature set.
It’s expected to arrive in September.
Those that aren’t keen on waiting a few months need only wait a few weeks for the LG G3, the successor to LG’s popular LG G2 flagship.
Later this month, LG will take the curtain down from around its LG G3, a device that is expected to have a ton of upgrades including a QHD display, a ton of RAM, and more. It’s expected to be released in June and it will battle the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and iPhone 5s. So if you were thinking about buying any of those phones, it’s probably worth it to wait.
LG surprised a lot of people with last year’s LG G2, it featured an awesome camera, amazing battery life and solid software and there is certainly a lot of potential for the LG G3 to repeat this success.
This is a smartphone that should be on your radar right now.
