`Google Nexus 8` spotted in Android 4.4 KitKat promotional material

It seems Google has done it again, after accidentally revealing the Nexus 5 in a promotional video of KitKat announcement, the search engine giant has now purportedly leaked the new Nexus tablet. The image was first spotted by Britoid on The Verge Forums and he writes, “I found this on the new Android website, the bezels are too small for it to be a N7.”

The ‘Apps and Entertainment’ section of Android’s new official site includes a promotional image of a woman holding an unknown tablet. The tablet pictured on the website sports thinner bezels compared to the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet and appears to run Android 4.4 KitKat, evident because of the white status bar icons on the screen. The mysterious tablet’s screen shows the Google Play store interface, and also includes three onscreen buttons for back, home and recent apps, similar to other Nexus tablets.

The unnamed tablet, which might be called the Nexus 8, looks a bit bigger than the current Nexus 7 tablets but is very small when compared to the Nexus 10 tablet, hinting that the search engine giant might be gearing up to launch a Nexus tablet with 8-inch display to directly compete against Apple’s iPad mini. As of now, no details related to the alleged unknown Nexus tablet are available.

Recently, Google made waves when it unveiled the much anticipated Nexus 5 smartphone and also introduced the next iteration of its mobile operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat. While unveiling the latest Nexus smartphone, Google also announced that the Android 4.4 KitKat will be soon available on Nexus 4 smartphone, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. In addition, Google also revealed that the new Android OS iteration will be rolled out to Google Play editions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One in the coming weeks.
